Es curioso lo que son las cosas. Toda la vida pensando e intentando averiguar lo que significaría dicha frase que tanto terror nos producía, aún sin entenderla, y de repente hoy, la introduzco en internet y me aclara de una vez por todas a que se refería¡¡¡¡

La mano del muerto es una jugada de póquer con un par de ochos y un par de ases, ambos negros, más una quinta carta no especificada. Es considerada una mano de póquer funesta, pese a ser, de hecho, una mano bastante buena. ¿Por qué? Según la leyenda, esa era la mano que recibió «Wild Bill» Hickok, famoso agente del orden y pistolero del lejano oeste, cuando fue asesinado mientras jugaba póquer en Deadwood en 1876. Hay pocas evidencias de la veracidad de la historia — ningún relato de contemporáneos dice qué cartas tenía el muerto en sus manos — pero eso no ha detenido la creencia de los supersticiosos apostadores. Si alguna vez observas a un personaje de una película recibir esta mano, existe una buena posibilidad de que encuentre su fin en la historia muy pronto.

It’s funny what things are. All life I’m thinking and trying to find out what that phrase mean that we produced much terror, even though without understanding it, and suddenly today, I introduce it in internet and it’s clarifies once and for all what he meant

The dead man’s hand is a poker game with a pair of eights and a pair of aces, both black, plus a fifth card unspecified. It is considered a fatal poker hand, despite the fact the being a pretty good hand. Why? According to legend, it was the hand that received «Wild Bill» Hickok, famed lawman and gunman of the Wild West, when he was killed while he’s playing poker in Deadwood in 1876. There is little evidence of the veracity of the story – no contemporary account says what cards had died in their hands – but that hasn’t stopped the superstitious beliefs of gamblers. If you ever watch a movie character receive this hand, there is a good chance to find his end in the story very soon.

La de veces que le he preguntado a mi madre, pero que es? de quien es?, quien te la dijo a ti?, y ella siempre respondía lo mismo. La decía su madre (por lo que se transmite de generación en generación, yo ya se la he dicho a mis hijos),claro lleva circulando casi dos siglos¡¡¡ no tiene ni idea de lo que significaba y sólo sabía que producía una tremenda parálisis en nosotros.

Pero es que además yo lo recuerdo¡¡¡¡. Estar jugando o peleándome con mis hermanos, y oir a mi madre : «estáis jugando con la mano del muerto», y nuestras caras eran de absoluto terror,¡¡ no se si porque imaginábamos una mano amputada¡¡, claro no tendría sentido que fuera el cuerpo del muerto entero, o porque se hablara de un muerto, o de ambas cosas.La realidad es que al menos por unos segundos nos quedábamos quietos. Si esto además se acompañaba con el movimiento de la mano de mi madre calentando motores, el efecto era aún mayor.

The times that I have asked my mother, but What it is? of who is it of? , who did you say it to you?, and she always answered the same. That her mother said it her (for what is transmitted from generation to generation, I already I have told my children), of course , it has been around nearly two centuries¡¡¡ she has no idea what it meant and just knew that it produced a tremendous paralysis in us.

But also I remember¡¡¡¡ Be playing or fighting with my brothers, and hear my mother, «you are playing with the dead man’s hand», and our faces were of absolute terror, I don’t know if it imagined an amputated hand, of course it would not make sense out the entire dead body, or because she speaks of the dead, or both. The reality is that at least for a few seconds we remained still. Besides, if this phrase was accompanied by the movement of the hand of my mother warming up, the effect was even greater.

La primera vez que se la dije a mis hijos, me reí yo misma miestras la oía y luego al ver  la cara que puso el mayor, como de pánico, jajjajajajajja,me vuelvo a reir al recordarlo….que crueldad.. y reflexioné ¡¡¡, madre mía, si no sabe lo que le estoy diciendo……él susurraba: no mami el muerto no¡¡¡¡

Le comenté que no se preocupara, y medité…uyyy¡¡¡ estoy causa efecto….la utilizaré mas a menudo.

No quiero parecer malvada, pero poder dejar inmovilizados a los niños unos segundos, mientras intentan descifrar lo que les has dicho, viene muy bien muchas veces…..

En posteriores ocasiones, ya se envalentonaba y me preguntaba : qué muerto?, lo conozco yo?, a lo que le respondía, el muerto es lo de menos¡¡¡¡ os la estáis jugando¡¡¡ os voy a castigar¡¡¡…..y aunque poco a poco pierde efectividad, la primera impresión siempre es de susto…o si no…probarla¡¡¡ por lo menos os reiréis¡¡

The first time I said it to my children, I laughed while hearing myself ,then seeing the look on his face the older child, such as panic, jajjajajajajja, I turn to laugh at the memory …. what cruelty¡¡ .. and I thought, OMG , if he doesn’t know what I’m saying him …… he whispered:, not mamy the dead not

I told him: don’t to worry, and I meditated … uyyy it’s cause effect …. I’ll use it more often.

I don’t  want to sound evil, but able to leave children immobilized few seconds while they try to  find out what you said, comes in handy many times …..

In later times, he already emboldened and wondered: what is the died?,Do I know him?, To which I responded him, the dead is the least ¡¡ I will punish you¡¡… although and gradually loses effectiveness, the first impression is always scare … or else … you try it ¡¡¡ you will laugh at least

Y por que me ha venido hoy esta expresión?, porque aunque ya comente que mi madre tiene muchas y muy variopintas frases, esta en concreto es la más macabra. Y yo hoy estoy cabreada. Si, si enfadada.

Enfadada con la hipocresía, con la falsedad, con el no mojarse por los amigos o por la familia, el quedar bien aunque eso signifique hacer daño a otros…..en fin , al menos hoy no voy a especificar más, esta noche han conseguido indignarme y mucho¡¡

Y pensé, uyyyyyy estos están jugando con la mano del muerto, en el sentido de….se la van a ganar, recibirán un justo castigo…..porque hay cosas con las que no se debe , ni se puede jugar.

Claro, ahora mi perspectiva ha cambiado totalmente¡¡¡

Ahora ya se lo que significa la expresión,y la frase me parece aún más siniestra¡.

And, why had I come myself today this expression?, Because although I comment that my mother has many and variegated phrases, this in particular is the most macabre. Because I’m pissed. Yes, yes, I’m angry.

And I thought, uyyyyyy¡¡¡¡ these are playing with the hand of the dead¡¡¡, in the sense …. they will receive a just punishment ….. because there are things that should not be, nor can play .

Of course, now my perspective has totally changed

Now I know what you meant by, and the phrase seems even more sinister.

Al hombre le dispararon por la espalda, lo mataron,mientras estaba jugando al pocker y llevaba dobles parejas….aunque podía ser un full, ya que la quinta carta no se sabe cual era. Y de ahí el dicho, de ahí la superstición…..

Fijaté si pueden dar vueltas las cosas. Reconozco que a mi me gusta el póquer, no juego mucho, pero me gusta, pero mi madre???, mi madre????, vamos, no juega ni al cinquillo, no creo que nunca hubiera relacionado su amenazante frase con el juego de cartas¡¡¡¡, eso si¡¡¡, como me salga alguna vez en una partida, no se si me va a dar la risa o un infarto¡¡¡

Pues eso….este post va dedicado a todos los que «están jugando con la mano del muerto»…..y por supuesto a mi madre.

Look at if the things can go round . I admit that I like the poker game , no much , but I like it, but my mother???, My mother????, Come on¡¡¡, she doesn’t play to cinquillo ,she never thought that I had associated her threatening phrase with card game, but this is, as I ever though play poker and have this hand, I don’t know if it will give me a heart attack or laughing
